Powerlifters seeking support to compete in Commonwealth championships

Island team hoping to head to South Africa next month

Manx Powerlifting is hoping members of the public can help its team to compete in one of the biggest international competitions in the sport.

Eleven athletes are preparing to head to the 2024 Commonwealth Powerlifting Championships in Sun City, South Africa, from the 4-13 October.

A fundraising campaign is underway to help cover the costs; it's expected it'll cost each competitor around £2,500 in travel, accommodation and competition fees.

The squad enjoyed success on its championships debut back in 2022 claiming 21 medals that year in Auckland, New Zealand.

Head Coach Lisa Grant, and team member Kail de los Reyes, explains what it would mean to them - and for the sport locally - to be able to face some of the world's best at the event:

Anyone wishing to donate to the cause can do so by visiting either the gofundme page or getting in touch with the club directly at manxpowerliftingmedia@gmail.com
