As the Isle of Man remembers those who have given their lives for their country, the father of a 23-year-old Royal Marine who was seriously injured in a suicide bombing in Afghanistan says those who return from war should also be celebrated.
Martin Peters was on patrol in Helmand province when he was hurt, and has since undergone a number of leg operations, as well as receiving ongoing treatment for shrapnel wounds.
He returned to the Island over Halloween weekend with several of his colleagues from 40 Commando Royal Marines, all of whom had also suffered injuries.
They were raising money for Help for Heroes, a United Kingdom charity which supports wounded servicemen and women returning from Afghanistan and Iraq. Over £6,000 was made on the night.
There are currently between 250 and 300 Manx people in the armed forces and Derek believes everyone should celebrate those who are prepared to risk their lives to serve their country:
