15p increase from 4 November
A significant increase in the cost of producing and serving primary school meals is being blamed for a price rise announced by the Department of Education, Sport and Culture.
The price per meal will go up by 15 pence from £2.40 to £2.55 following the Autumn half-term.
Children eligible for free school meals will not be affected.
Minister Daphne Caine said: "I understand that parents may not welcome the increase, but even at the new price, the cost will not fully cover the cost of provision.”
The DESC says the current cost of providing a school meal is £4.54 on average, across the 31 primary schools that offer hot school meals.
