DHA minister welcomes additional £6m to keep Island 'safe and secure'

Prisoners and prison officers remain under ‘huge strain’ due to the Jurby facility being full.

The justice and home affairs minister has confirmed to Tynwald it’s still over capacity.

Issues with overcrowding started in 2024 leading to the erection of temporary cells created from portable cabins.

The Department of Home Affairs has attributed increasing numbers of cases involving drugs and sexual offending for the population swell.

It will get an extra £6 million to keep the Island ‘safe and secure’ as part of this year’s Budget.

But Jane Poole-Wilson says, whilst welcome, it won’t go far enough:
