Village 'was the making of him'
St Mark's Fair will be opened today (Sat 14) by a professor, who was once dispatched to the local village school after being described as a 'lazy bones'.
Professor Hugh Davidson says, in 1942, he started making the week-long trips to stay with his aunt in the small community, in the hope it would improve his education.
And he thinks it was the making of him.
The Fair at St Mark's will be opened by Professor Davidson at two o'clock this afternoon, with the crowning of the Fair Princess, Charlotte Moss.
