Chief Minister Tony Brown says Tynwald Day is moving with the times, but the Isle of Man's ancient customs remain at the centre of the whole event in St John's.
Mr Brown says the tradition of promulgating laws passed by the legislature, when they are read out from the hill, is still an important part of the parliamentary process after more than 1,000 years:
