Issue to go before House of Keys
More than 250 people turned up to take part in a peaceful protest today to protect the Elm trees in St Marks.
Protesters gathered on the green in the village to stand against a planning application which would see 25 Elm trees on Braaid Road felled to ‘improve road safety.’
They then went onto walk down to the site of the ‘Elm corridor’ with cars beeping their support as they passed.
It's prompted a petition to save the trees, which nearly 30 thousand people have signed.
The backlash has resulted in Douglas South MHK Paul Quine being given permission to ask an urgent question on the matter in the House of Keys next week.
