The Manx public could be the first line of defence in the fight against Dutch Elm Disease.
A fresh outbreak has been threatening elm trees in the United Kingdom, and while the disease is present on the Island, it is kept under control by the Department of Environment Food and Agriculture.
However, because of cutbacks the department hasn't been able employ people specifically assigned to detection and prevention work during 2010.
Around a quarter of the trees on the Island are elm, which equates to a total of around 300,000.
