Colder weather increases spread of seasonal viruses, with older people and those with long-term conditions at greater risk
Public Health Isle of Man is reminding residents to take simple steps to protect their health and help limit the spread of seasonal illnesses during the winter months.
The body says viruses such as flu, Covid, coughs and colds, and norovirus spread more easily in colder weather, when people spend more time indoors.
It warns that cold conditions can also worsen existing health problems and lead to serious complications, particularly for those aged 65 or over, or people living with long-term health conditions.
Advice includes keeping warm at home, ensuring supplies of remedies for common winter illnesses, washing hands regularly, and checking in on friends, family and neighbours who may be more vulnerable.
Residents are also being encouraged to make use of community support, including seeking advice from local pharmacists, staying active through exercise groups, and checking which vaccinations they may be eligible for.
Public Health says taking preventative steps now can help reduce illness and pressure on health services over the winter period.
