Jason Moorhouse to challenge Attorney General’s Chambers over rising bonus payments amid public concern
An MHK says it's a “mystery” why the use of bonuses is becoming increasingly prevalent across the Isle of Man’s public sector.
Arbory, Castletown and Malew member Jason Moorhouse is set to question the Attorney General’s Chambers in Tynwald next week.
In recent months, it has emerged that the Department for Enterprise has paid out bonuses worth £220,000, though it maintains these differ from most standard civil service arrangements.
Previously, the department said such payments were necessary to attract private-sector expertise and that they are budgeted as part of overall salary packages rather than additional, unexpected costs.
The DfE says these payments, while unusual in government, reflect commercially competitive pay structures and are limited to business development roles within the executive agencies (Business Isle of Man, Finance Isle of Man, Visit Isle of Man, Digital Isle of Man).
But Mr Moorhouse believes the growing use of bonuses is creating a sense of mistrust within the wider community:
