New course to help aid careers in emergency services, armed forces and prison
Students are being given the opportunity to explore careers in the protective services.
University College Isle of Man is introducing a new qualification in Uniformed Protective Services to replace the previous psychology course.
The BTEC Level 3 extended certificate is designed for those interested in working in the police, fire and rescue, armed forces, prison services and other uniformed roles.
It will be taught alongside the Level 3 forensics course which means those studying will attain a qualification equivalent to three A-Levels which carries up to 168 UCAS points.
A spokesperson for UCM said: "Protective Services prepares students for progression into the police, fire and rescue, armed forces, prison and border services and other public-service careers.
"The Level 3 programme can also provide progression to higher education in areas such as policing, criminology, law and public services.
"This complements the criminology and science knowledge and skills that learners gain on the Level 3 Forensics course whilst also extending progression opportunities."
The two-year course will combine classroom learning with practical experience, helping learners to understand the responsibilities and expectations of working within the area.
