Ministers will now report back by July on the effectiveness of committees and boards, examining their purpose, cost and whether they should continue in their current form.
Health and Social Care Minister Howard Quayle urged a note of caution, however, stressing any pruning should be kept to a 'manageable level' within government departments to avoid inadvertently forming another level of bureaucracy.
