New licence measures to fend off equine flu
Government is advising against the import of horses to the Island after an outbreak of equine flu was confirmed in England this week.
As a result, the British Horse racing Authority has suspended all racing in an effort to assess the extent of the disease across the country.
The Manx government's Chief Veterinary Officer has confirmed bioscecurity measures have been put in place on the Island as a precaution, to stop the spread of the virus.
Alastair Breed says import licenses now require the owner to quarantine their animal for a two week period.
He says this will cover the flu's incubation period and will help with any possible identification of the disease.
