The final two phases of the enhancement scheme for North Quay, Douglas are under way.
They will include creating a safe working area for boat and craft owners; a three-metre wide pedestrian/cycle way; designated unloading areas and wide pedestrian areas and on-street parking between Market Hill and Parade Street.
To encourage low traffic speeds the scheme will incorporate features such as ramps, street furniture and public art.
The section of North Quay will be closed to traffic throughout the construction period but agreement in principle has been reached to provide residents and visitors’ parking in the evening.
The department says it is grateful for the support of residents and businesses in the area.
The work is due to take until next summer.
