Queen scallop quota raised after bumper catches

Attributed, in part, to conservation measures introduced in recent years

The size and quality of queen scallop landings has prompted the Island's Scallop Management Board to raise the total allowable catch for vessels currently fishing in Manx waters.

Just seven weeks into the season boats had caught more than 92 percent of the 726-tonne limit. 

As a result the board has deferred to the higher catch limit of 1,140 tonnes.
