The Queen looks set to be deleted from Tynwald’s standing orders when the court sits later this month.
The first report of the five-man committee which considers the court’s rules will be discussed by Tynwald members a week on Tuesday.
Consisting of Speaker of the House of Keys Steve Rodan, MLCs Eddie Lowey and Phil Braidwood, and MHKs Howard Quayle and Peter Karran, the committee makes a number of recommendations.
One is to substitute the word “sovereign” for “Queen”, which the committee says is gender-neutral.
Also being changed is a reference to Tynwald court assembled at St John’s – the committee says the rule assumes it’s synonymous with Tynwald Day, but the court also sits at St John’s for the proclamation of the Lord of Man, which last happened in 1952.
