DEFA measures seek to protect stock, but at a cost to jobs
New restrictions to the Manx fishing industry has confused and angered those in the community.
As today marks the opening of the queenie season, the Island's fishermen have been instructed to catch 40% less than they did last year.
The new measures have been imposed by the Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture following recommendations from the University of Bangor.
It's to allow what they say are 'exhausted stock levels' - the worst since 1993 - to recover.
But in turn, the move has cast uncertainty over the viability of the industry, as the environment minister has already suggested a ban for next year.
