Questions in Tynwald on VAT agreement

Sarah's Law, the Solway Harvester and the state of the Isle of Man's film industry will come under scrutiny in Tynwald today (Tuesday).

Politicians are facing a busy time as the end of the legislative year draws to a close, with 18 questions for oral answer and one for written reply.

The sitting will also see statements from ministers about the planning system, the Island's taxis, and homes for rich people who move to the Island.

Departments will ask the court to approve £2.7 million of spending, and there are three motions from members.

Questions are dominated by queries about the Island’s VAT agreement with the United Kingdom and the film industry, after figures showed CinemaNX has so far lost £27 million.

North Douglas MHK Bill Henderson will also raise the idea of introducing 'Sarah’s Law” to track child sex offenders.

Infrastructure Minister Phil Gawne will ask permission to spend more than £1.5 million on a Northern Civic Amenity Site and a hangar in Jurby.

Meanwhile, Community Culture and Leisure Minister David Cretney plans to spend £640,000 on replacement synthetic pitches around the Island.
