Scaysbrook claims he was caught speeding on Manx roads
A TT racer has thanked police for not throwing him ‘in jail’ after claiming he was caught riding at ‘dramatically higher speeds than permitted’ on Manx roads.
Rennie Scaysbrook has shared a photograph of himself with an officer who he says ‘chose’ not to penalise him.
The Australian rider took to social media to recount a story of being pulled over, after being clocked with a speed detection gun, claiming the police officer told him: “I just want you to be safe mate.”
Scaysbrook has pledged to do ‘no more public riding’ adding: “The Manx fairies were looking out for me on that one.”
The Isle of Man Constabulary has told Manx Radio Mr Scaysbrook was stopped for exceeding the 50mph speed limit but his speed was ‘not excessive’ and was within ‘tolerance levels’.
A spokesperson added: “The Isle of Man Constabulary is committed to keeping the residents and visitors of the Island as safe as possible.
“Police officers have ‘discretion’ in some circumstances and the circumstances of Mr Scaysbrook being stopped allowed the officer to provide suitable words of advice.
“The Isle of Man Constabulary very much polices by consent and will continue to work with the residents and visitors of our Island.
“Wherever possible officers will use their discretion and provide educational words of advice. However there may be times when this is not appropriate.”
