Island resident helps blind war veteran on Armed Forces Day
A blind war veteran has been praised for his ‘fantastic effort’ in climbing Ben Nevis on Armed Forces Day.
Eighty-seven-year-old John Banfield from Milton Keynes was assisted in his quest by Island resident Gary Thomas.
The RAF veteran answered a call for assistance from the Royal Air Force Mountain Rescue Association with the duo taking on the challenge yesterday (27 June).

It’s believed John is the oldest person to make the climb.
