DOI says proposals scrapped after 'serious concerns' raised
The infrastructure minister has been accused of withdrawing plans for sea defences along West Quay in Ramsey based on 'a handful of comments' made on social media.
Ramsey MHK Lawrie Hooper says there's been a lack of consultation with interested parties since the plan to erect a barrier wall four feet in height along the quayside was first mooted.
The Department of Infrastructure claims today's decision to withdraw the plan is based on serious concerns raised locally about the scale and impact of the design.

But Mr Hooper isn't impressed.
Minster Crookall is due to speak live on Manx Radio Breakfast tomorrow morning (24 February) after 8am.
Announcing the plans had been withdrawn, Mr Crookall said: ‘While we remain fully committed to protecting homes and businesses in Ramsey from the risk of flooding. There have been serious concerns about the height of the wall that had been proposed and the number of parking spaces that would have been lost as a result.
‘I have listened carefully to the views of the community. It is clear that the current design whilst offering essential flood protection to the town, is not the right solution for West Quay, and therefore we are withdrawing the scheme in its present form.’
