Bank to only open twice a week

The Barclays bank in Ramsey is to reduce its opening hours.

From 17 June the Parliament Street branch will only be open for two days a week, Monday and Friday, between 9:30am and 4:30pm.

A statement from Barclays says its chosen those hours, as that is when customers visit most.

It says it's reviewing the services its branches offer, taking into account the digital options available.

The closest alternative branch is on Victoria Street, Douglas.

The bank also told Manx Radio:

• Customers have a wide range of options to complete their banking including their Local, Barclays app, Telephone Banking, Online Banking and Video Banking.

• The role of the physical branch is evolving, with fewer than 10% of transactions now taking place inside a branch.

• Barclays digital customers have grown every year and now stand at 10.9 million, with nearly four billion app logins a year and over 90% of transactions completed digitally.

• We will be proactively engaging with local businesses and the wider community to discuss the alternative ways customers will be able to undertake their banking locally.

• We will be offering virtual digital support sessions for customers wishing to explore digital banking and other alternatives to branch based banking.
