St Johns man denies all charges
The trial of a St John's man who faces 10 charges of rape and four of indecent assault has opened at Douglas courthouse. (Tues 2/05)
Forty-six year old William Henry Kelly, who is also charged with two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and one act against public justice, denies all the charges against him.
A jury of seven was sworn in before Deemster Birkett this morning.
Summarising the case for the Prosecution, advocate Richard Butters, told the jury it was their contention that Mr Kelly was a manipulating, controlling bully with an overwhelming sex drive.
He said each of the three complainants had been systematically abused by him.
He outlined 16 alleged counts of rape and indecent assault committed between April 2013 and April 2016, plus one alleged act against public justice.
Mr Butters claimed that when Mr Kelly wanted sex, he got it, with or without consent and didn't give a damn about anyone's feelings other than his own.
The case will continue at 10am tomorrow (Wed) when the jury will start hearing evidence from the prosecution.
