Kelly begins 18 year term behind bars
Women in the Island are being assured reports of assault and rape will always be taken seriously by police - and it's never too late to escape an abusive relationship.
The words of the officer who led the investigation into serial rapist William Henry Kelly, who was yesterday (18 May) jailed for 18 years, after a two week trial at Douglas courthouse.
Detective Inspector Michelle McKillop has described 45-year old Kelly from Peel, as a 'dangerous and prolific sex offender and perpetrator of domestic abuse'.
The jury, which found him guilty on all 16 charges, heard how he initiated relationships, then controlled and intimidated his three victims, leaving them trapped and vulnerable.
DI McKillop says the conviction makes it clear women suffering rape within relationships must not suffer in silence - as they will be listened to:
