Onchan board member speaks out ahead of meeting
An Onchan Commissioner has repeated his belief that ratepayers shouldn't be paying for the capital costs of the Energy from Waste plant.
Rob Callister was speaking ahead of a meeting between the Department of Infrastructure and local authorities tomorrow evening (17 July) which has a substantial agenda relating to long-term local authority reform issues.
Mr Callister says previous governments have committed the Island's population to footing the bill for more than £216 million of fixed costs between 2004 - 2029, purely for the financing and operation of the plant.
Mr Callister believes capital costs for the facility are the responsibility of the department, not the local authorities.
