A bill paving the way for the introduction of a new sewerage charge has passed its latest hurdle in the House of Keys.
A series of amendments were tabled during the clauses stage today (25 Nov) as the Sewerage (Amendment) Bill underwent detailed examination.
MHKs have agreed that a review of the Island's rating system must be underway before the so-called toilet tax is brought in.
Moves to have a ratings review completed and then approved by Tynwald before the sewerage charge is introduced, were defeated.
The charge will be levied on households, based on rateable values.
Chairman of the Manx Utilities Authority Alfred Cannan told the House the MUA needed to raise revenue from the charge in the short term.
But MHKs refused to give the bill its third reading today.
