
It is time to re-evaluate the grant support government gives to the manufacturing industry.
That is the belief of the President of the Trades Council, Bernard Moffatt, in the wake of Friday’s announcement that 60 jobs are to go at Strix in Ramsey.
The kettle component makers is transferring the work to China, where costs are lower.
Mr Moffatt (pictured) says while there are many positives in the sector, grant aid should only be awarded to companies who supply the Island with secure and continuous employment.
He wants to know how much money Strix has received from government:
