
A local librarian feels the recent rash of films and video games based on books have helped get children into reading.
Douglas Borough Library's Jan McCartney (pictured) says the likes of Philip Pullman's 'His Dark Materials' trilogy, one book of which has been turned into 'The Golden Compass' film and game, have stepped into the void left by the end of the Harry Potter series.
And she says it's vital any initial interest in reading created by such books is maintained:
