Onchan ratepayers are being asked if they are prepared to pay for kerbside recycling.
The current service - in Onchan, Douglas and Braddan - is a three year pilot scheme, funded by government.
The trial period is nearing the end of its second year and, if it is to continue, the local authorities may be asked to provide funding themselves, which would mean an extra charge on the rates.
The collection of paper, tins and glass has proved popular in the village and has saved the commissioners £14,500 a year on disposal fees at the incinerator.
