Kathryn Radcliffe pleaded guilty at Douglas Courthouse
A Regaby cabbie with an uninsured taxi was caught by police as she carried a passenger.
Fifty-six-year-old Kathryn Frances Radcliffe of Ardonan Lane appeared before magistrates at Douglas courthouse.
She pleaded guilty to driving without a valid insurance policy on 6 December last year.
Prosecution advocate James Robinson told the hearing police stopped her silver Mercedes on the New Castletown Road in Santon at around 9pm because they were concerned about the state of the vehicle.
They issued a fixed penalty notice over the tyres and asked Radcliffe to produce her documents.
However, when she did so at a later date officers noticed her insurance policy only began after she’d been stopped – she told them she thought a quote from her broker had covered her.
In court, her advocate Jerry Carter said Radcliffe had gone to pay the first premium on a new policy but her car had broken down.
Magistrates said as a professional driver she had a particular responsibility to have insurance.
She was banned from getting behind the wheel for three months, as well as being fined £800 and ordered to pay £50 towards prosecution costs.
