An MHK who promoted one of the unsuccessful candidates in yesterday's election to the Legislative Council says there seems to be a reluctance to vote in "outsiders"
Patrick Commissioner David Talbot and celebrity chef and hotelier Kevin Woodford dropped out of the election after a few rounds after seeing their vote slip. Retired firefighter John Skinner, who was nominated from the floor after the first round of voting, also withdrew.
South Douglas MHK David Cretney promoted Mr Woodford.
He says there always seems to be a preference for those from the Keys but he believes others from outside the House can have an important role to play.
