Christmas advice from fire service
The Island’s Fire and Rescue Service is reminding people to check their smoke alarms are working before the festive period.
With plenty of us planning on spending more time in the kitchen at this time of year – and with potential hazards such as candles in the home – the service says it’s vital to make sure smoke detectors are working.
Fire officers also say people should make sure they have enough batteries to put in their smoke detectors.
Too often they say, people are tempted on Christmas morning to use batteries from smoke detectors to put into children’s toys.
