
The Department of Health is reminding all those in the "at risk" category for flu to get vaccinated.
The list includes those aged 65 and above, anyone with chronic diseases and immunological problems and pregnant women.
The department says flu activity in many parts of North America is reported to be high and the Pan-American Health Organisation has issued an alert to all healthcare providers to be prepared to deal with an increased work load due to flu.
It also suggests that current weather predictions suggest a cold snap which may last until mid February and such weather often leads to increased transmission of flu.
