Isle of Man residents travelling to the United Kingdom may in future have to carry a passport if Border Agency officials are handed extra powers.
That's the view of local researcher Tristram Llewellyn Jones, who is closely following the progress of a UK government bill.
He believes Islanders could be forced to produce a passport by default, if customs officers on intelligence led patrols, demand to see a person's travel documents.
The Manx Government has dismissed those fears, saying it's confident such restrictions will not be imposed.
But Mr Llewellyn Jones fears Manx travellers could find themselves more closely watched:
