
The Managing Director of the Pickwick Group in the Isle of Man has serious concerns about the proposal to ban cigarette displays in shops.
The idea has been put forward by the UK government's Department of Health in a bid to discourage young people from starting to smoke.
But Peter Whittaker believes it would put undue pressure on retailers - with a detrimental effect on sales and delays at the till.
He says controls are already in place to make sure age-related products are only sold to people over 18 and feels restrictions on where items can be displayed would be unnecessary (audio file attached):
