The decision not to run trams on the stretch of the Manx Electric Railway between Laxey and Ramsey this summer is to be the subject of an independent review.
Chief Minister Tony Brown made the announcement in the House of Keys, in response to an emergency question from North Douglas MHK Bill Henderson.
Tourism Minister Adrian Earnshaw took the decision to close the track on safety grounds, after a consultant's report deemed sections to be unsatisfactory.
Mr Brown told the House the review would take place as a matter of urgency and Tynwald would be notified in due course.
He also reaffirmed his commitment to the MER (audio file attached):
Mr Brown said a full copy of the track condition report would be made available for public access in the Tynwald library and it would also be made available on the Manx Government's website.
