Major road works on the main route into Douglas from the south of the Island start today (Monday).
The £3 million scheme at Richmond Hill is designed to improve safety by lengthening the overtaking lane, providing better access to the Home of Rest for Old Horses and adding more pavement and streetlighting in the area.
The work is due to take 44 weeks, finishing in December if all goes according to plan.
Traffic will restricted to one lane in each direction and a 30 miles per hour speed limit will also be in place, from Spring Valley roundabout to the top of Richmond Hill, during the project.
