A row has broken out over plans to allow the dumping of sewage pellets at a landfill site in the north of the Island.
Bride Commissioners say they are 'horrified' at the prospect of around 400 tons of pellets from the Meary Veg treatment plant being buried each year at Wright's Pit North.
The Commissioners fear the sludge pellets could pollute the land and sea and say they should be used as a fertiliser on farmland instead.
And they've called a public meeting next week to debate the issue.
According to the authorities, the pellets are destined for the incinerator, or for use as a fertiliser, and will only be sent to Wright's Pit North as a last resort.
Director of Drainage at the DoT, Peter Winstanley, says the sludge is not a harmfull pollutant.
