Thousands expected at Knockaloe
One of the biggest events in the Island’s farming calendar gets under way in the West of the Island today.
The Royal Manx Agricultural Show is run by the Royal Manx Agricultural Society, which was founded in 1858, then got its royal title in 1951 from King George VI.
The two-day event begins today at Knockaloe Farm in Patrick and is expected to draw thousands of people from around the Island.
As well as stalls and exhibits, it’s a chance for farmers to show off the finest Manx produce and compete for the show’s ultimate prize.
Today sees competitions for farmyard pets, dogs, showjumpers, and calves – with demonstrations and shows from police dogs, the Triskelion polo club, and Steve Colley.
It’s Saturday when the major prizes are given out, however, with the Supreme Champion named at 4pm.
The 19-acre site is open from 9am to 5pm on both days.
Organisers say dogs are welcome on the field on both days, if they’re kept on short leads.
