Authority to consider 'best interests' of ratepayers
Rushen Parish Commissioners have arranged an 'emergency meeting' tonight (2 July) to discuss how to respond to the latest developments on the Ballakilley boundary dispute.
Neighbouring Port Erin Commissioners have applied to extend their territory around the entire estate, a move which the parish authority has resisted.
However, it was announced today (2 July) that Port Erin's bid has been supported by Infrastructure Minister Ray Harmer following the outcome of a public inquiry.
The proposal will now be discussed during the July sitting of Tynwald.
A spokesperson for Rushen Commissioners says the board were disappointed to receive formal notification of the Minister's decision 'four hours' after the media were told.
The local authority will now decide how to 'best represent' the interests of ratepayers, and will consider issuing a 'formal complaint over the department's handling of the matter'.
Port Erin Commissioners have been contacted for comment, but have not replied at the time of publishing.
