OFT highlights serious risk posed by Riber devices
There's a warning to owners of a specific brand of throw bag rescue lines NOT to use them.
The Office of Fair Trading says a recall notice has been issued for the Riber 15m (4042), 20m (4062) and 25m (4043) devices.
If used in a rescue, the faulty items could lead to a drowning, as there's a risk the two welded parts of the rope could come apart.
Commercial and recreational boat operators, as well as rowing and swimming clubs and adventure centres, are being advised to take the rescue lines out of use immediately, and contact the OFT on 686 500.
