Board to bring shellfish under common rule
A new board will be established to advise the Manx government on how manage the Island's king and queen scallop fisheries.
The Department of Environment Food and Agriculture wants to help protect both stocks by working with fisherman, scientists, and representatives from other fishing authorities.
Previously a board of experts had advised DEFA on queen scallop management -that will now extend to include king scallops.
The new body will be headed by Dr Walter Crozier who has considerable experience in marine ecosystems and biosciences.
Worth millions of pounds to the Manx economy, DEFA minister Geoffrey Boot says king scallops need the same protection as queenies.
