Vessel will become community asset if completed
A Scottish-based project to rebuild a herring boat built in the Isle of Man in 1937 has been awarded a development grant of £84,000 by the UK Heritage Fund.
The scheme aims to make the vessel, called the Manx Beauty, a working community asset.
It was one of two boats built by the East Fife Boatbuilding Company for the Isle of Man government - its sister ship was the Manx Fairy.
When it launched in 1937 it sailed to the Island with Lock Horsburgh as skipper - he had married a Manx woman in 1934
The Cellardyke Trust in East Fife, Scotland is behind the initiative which had already raised £12,000 online and their chair is Richard Weymss (Weems) who is also project leader.
He says if they can get further funding from a National Lottery grant for the venture then it will create educational training opportunities and help develop practical heritage skills -
