Almost half of the pup population killed
Seal numbers around the Calf of Man will suffer for years to come as almost half of pups born this autumn were lost during Storm Ophelia.
A marine officer for the Manx Wildlife Trust says the population will shrink considerably after 48 per cent of grey seal pups are believed to have died during the extreme weather a week ago.
The organisation's received numerous reports of carcasses being found across the Island in the aftermath of Ophelia.
Forty-two births were recorded prior to the storm, but since then only 22 youngsters have been spotted.
