31-year-old must wait until December
A Barnsley man who tried to smuggle almost £50,000 in criminal cash off the Isle of Man has had his sentencing hearing delayed.
Sam Kenneth Leigh, of Worsbrough, was due to learn his fate on Monday (31 October) after previously pleading guilty to attempting to remove the money.
The 31-year-old was stopped at the Sea Terminal in Douglas on 25 September as part of Operation Strongbox.
At Douglas Courthouse this week the Attorney General’s Chambers application to adjourn sentencing, until further forensic enquiries have been carried out, was granted.
Leigh was told he'll now be sentenced on 2 December instead.
His advocate described the delay as ‘difficult’ for the defendant, and his partner, to which Deemster Graham Cook replied: “Yes, well he shouldn’t have had £48,000 in his car.”
There was no application for bail and Leigh was remanded at the Isle of Man Prison.
