A man who admitted carrying out two burglaries just weeks after being given a suspended prison sentence has been jailed for 20 months.
Martin James Todd, whose address was given as care of the prison, broke into two business premises in Douglas in April.
The 24-year-old first stole £35 and a key from a coffee shop in Bucks Road, then two days later targeted Marine and General on Head Road.
Deemster Doyle heard Todd fled the Island under a false name and was arrested on May first on his return.
His advocate Ian Kermode said despite numerous previous convictions his client wished to change his lifestyle and settle down with his girlfriend.
Deemster Doyle told Todd he’d been given every possible chance but hadn’t taken them – and the burglaries were committed just weeks after the High Bailiff had imposed a suspended sentence.
Sending Todd to prison and noting his previous convictions, he activated six months out of the 12 months suspended sentence.
