Thirty-nine-year-old on sex offenders register indefinitely
A 39-year-old man has been sentenced to five years and five months imprisonment for indecent assault on a child.
Andrew Mark Byrne had been convicted of four counts of indecent assault on a child, 30 counts of making indecent images and videos of children and one count of a breach of Sexual Offences Prevention Order.
He was also put on the Sex Offenders Register for an indefinite period.
The indecent assault occurred in the early 1990s, whilst the offences involving indecent imagery were committed between 2001 and 2014.
Police received a complaint of historical sexual abuse earlier this year which brought about the investigation.
Inspector Michelle McKillop from the Public Protection Unit says every level of sexual abuse, particularly against children, is unacceptable.
She adds that the Isle of Man Constabulary will make as much effort to investigate historical cases as they do current cases.
She says for the victim the pain is still real and police understand that.
She urges anyone who is suffering in silence or has considered whether or not to report abuse, to come forward.
