Police have praised the ‘considerable courage’ shown by teenage girls on the Isle of Man who were sexually abused by an Onchan man.
The Isle of Man Constabulary has described the actions of John Curtis as ‘disturbing and abhorrent’.
He was jailed for 20 years and 8 months at Douglas Courthouse today (30 October).
The 41-year-old had pleaded guilty to a number of sexual offences including rape, attempted rape and sexual assault.

He also admitted taking and making indecent photographs, recording intimate images and possession of indecent photographs of children across all categories.
'Courage'
In a statement the Isle of Man Constabulary said whilst Curtis admitted his guilt this does not ‘diminish’ the seriousness of his offending or the impact on the victims.
The victims in the case, the constabulary says, have shown ‘considerable courage’ throughout the investigation and subsequent court process.
It adds: “We recognise that strength and thank them for the trust they have placed in the officers and professionals who have supported them throughout.”
'Not tolerated'
Detective Sergeant Kelly Wilkinson said: “Today’s sentence should send a clear message that sexual offending, and violence against women and girls, will not be tolerated.
“We remain committed to protecting vulnerable people, pursuing those who cause them harm, and ensuring victims are listened to, supported and treated with dignity throughout the criminal justice process.
“I would like to recognise the professionalism and commitment of everyone involved in bringing this case to court.
“In particular I want to acknowledge the officers who responded to the initial report.
“They acted swiftly and professionally, securing significant evidence and arresting Curtis.
“Their actions at that early stage made an important contribution to the investigation that followed.
“I would also like to thank my colleagues within PVPI, particularly the officer in the case, DC Alex Kenny, the digital forensic team and the prosecution team, for their professionalism, commitment and dedication throughout what has been a difficult and demanding investigation.
“I would also like to extend my thanks to Victim Support Isle of Man for the support they have provided to the victims throughout this process.”
