Number of people needing help rises
An Island charity which helps those struggling to buy enough food says it’s seen a huge surge in demand this year.
The Isle of Man Food Bank, based on Peel Road in Douglas, saw almost 300 people in the first seven months of this year – the same as the whole of last year.
Director Neal Mellon says the organisation is now well on track to help twice as many people as it did in 2014.
He says are a number of reasons which could account for the sharp rise:
