Blames shortage at supplier and errors in labelling
Shoprite has apologised for what it calls a 'disappointing' mix-up with Manx meat labels.
The supermarket has drawn criticism from farmers and customers this week, after it emerged a number of imported meat products were mis-sold as local.
Shoprite identified a shortage at supplier Isle of Man Meats, combined with errors in labelling equipment, as the cause of the mishap.
In a statement released earlier, it says staff are working alongside government and the Manx NFU to 'understand and remedy' the situation.
It adds:
'Selling 80% of Manx meat on the Island is a huge responsibility and one we take seriously'.
